If Content Creation Feels Hard, This May Be Why
The problem isn’t that you don’t have content. It’s that no one’s helping you get to the root of what’s blocking you from sharing it.
This is part 1 of a 5-part series on soul-aligned content creation. Specifically, the kind of content that feels good to make and actually moves your business forward.
Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss the next part. Because what I’m about to share in the next few days…I rarely see anyone online talk about.
These days, we’ve all heard “just use AI” or “follow this content framework” or “just write when you feel like it”. And don’t get me wrong, as a former tech marketer, I’ve tried all of the above and more.
But they only scratch the surface. We need to go deeper if we want to create content consistently and easily.
In my last post, I talked about my food healing journey. My past Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultations reminded me why many solopreneurs and entrepreneurs try all those solutions on the market and still struggle with content creation.
In TCM, the practitioner doesn’t just talk to you for a few minutes, hand you some pills, and say, “drink water and rest.” Instead, they follow a thorough 4-step diagnostic process:
Inspection (望診)
Listening & Smelling (聞診)
Inquiring (問診)
Palpation (切診)
Each step is designed to get a full picture of what’s happening inside and outside of your body so they can treat the actual root problem, not just the symptoms. It’s also how they can tailor specific herbal medicine and/or other healing methods like acupuncture and moxa for your particular problem. The whole process is what leads to true holistic healing.
But for so many solopreneurs, content creation feels heavy. Like a chore. Or worse…like a mountain of shame. Even the phrase itself feels like a burden.
We all know that to build trust and a relationship with people and make a transaction/value exchange, we need content (such as social media content, podcast, website, videos, etc).
So we try to fix it by writing posts whether we feel like it or not, buying courses or content templates, using AI tools, hiring freelancers or agencies, forcing ourselves to write on a schedule, or getting coached on strategy/tactics.
As a former tech marketer and now a marketing consultant, I can confidently say that all of those can be helpful and supportive, depending on where you are in your business.
But for most solopreneurs and entrepreneurs? Those are like putting a band-aid on a deeper wound.
You might feel a little better temporarily…but it doesn’t last.
And it certainly doesn’t build the personal agency and self-trust you need to create content that feels aligned.
Like my TCM example earlier, it’s the same with finding the real root problem(s) you have with content creation. We must go deeper to determine what is actually blocking you from expressing yourself with clarity, resonance, and connection.
Because “content creation” is the main way your soul communicates with the world, so the right people can find you and experience your medicine.
Let’s start with your inner world and internal blocks.
So What’s Blocking You from Actually Creating Content?
Here are some common blocks I’ve experienced and heard from many other creators, solopreneurs, and entrepreneurs over the years. I’ve also included gentle reminders to help you get out of your way and confidently move forward.
❓ “I don’t know what to write about.”
This is a common one I hear. But the reality is that you do.
You just haven’t realized it yet.
Those comments and DMs you leave on social media platforms?
Those texts you send to your family, friends, colleagues, and partner?
Those voice notes, random rants, or stories you tell over coffee or mealtimes?
Those articles you read online or books/magazines/newspapers and spark an idea or opinion within you?
That is content. You are already expressing and creating with ease…it just hasn’t been repackaged yet.
🌪️ “I have too many ideas and don’t know where to begin.”
This is another one that I often hear, which used to paralyze me, too. Deep down, I was afraid that if I picked one idea, I’d miss out on the “right” one or that I’d never get around to sharing the rest.
But the truth is...you’ll get to all your ideas eventually. You just need to start with one.
So give this a try:
Give yourself 5 minutes and write down all your ideas on paper.
Then close your eyes and randomly point to one.
Or glance over the list and see which one “pulls” at you.
Start there. That’s the idea you’re sharing for today.
🧩 “I don’t want to confuse people by talking about different topics.”
This is related to the previous point and was something blocking me for the longest time. But real talk here…is this about your audience being confused or are you afraid of judgment?
Here’s a gentle reframe:
Can you trust your audience to be smart enough to connect the dots?
Can you believe they have the personal agency to receive what’s meant for them and leave the rest?
Can you let them judge or get confused by you without you diluting or changing the wisdom you’ve been wanting to share?
You’re allowed to be multi-dimensional. And people are smart enough to follow you even if it takes a few posts for your big picture to emerge in their minds.
🧠 “It feels unnatural and I just want people to get me.”
This one hit home for me. I realized I wasn’t resisting content creation…I was resisting being misunderstood.
But here’s the reality check. Even in real life, people misunderstand each other. It’s human. No one is fully understood all the time.
So every time you share, think of it as a practice. A way to refine your message. Each piece you create brings more clarity to both your audience and yourself.
👩🏻💼 “I want to be professional. I don’t want to overshare.”
Anyone who has worked in corporate or got bombarded with this kind of advice on social media, what this is really forcing us to do is “show up polished,” otherwise we aren’t authoritative or credible.
But vulnerability, when shared with intention, builds trust faster than any marketing or sales funnel. People want to see your process, messiness, and realness because you help others feel seen. You create safety. You magnetize the right people into your world.
That’s being human, and it’s the most potent thing we have in this era of AI.
📆 “I don’t want to post every day. It’s exhausting.”
I’ve said this myself as well. And the reality is you don’t have to.
But I hope you ask yourself this before you give in: are you really burned out or just burdened by your perfectionism?
Because we all share daily already through DMs, texts, comments, and conversations.
Humans are literally wired for expression.
Yet, we overthink it when it comes time to hit publish. So let’s get curious about why.
Is it fear of judgment? Fear it won’t “work”? That no one will respond?
I’ve been there and deeply resonate but I’ve also realized these aren’t content creation problems. They’re self-trust problems and they’re totally workable with compassion and consistency.
🌀 “I want to align with my energy levels and season of life.”
YES, absolutely!! This is a crucial component that I share with my clients when we co-create their marketing and business strategies together.
The gentle reminder here is that there’s a difference between rest and avoidance.
If your soul and body need a break, take it.
But if you’re staying quiet out of fear, confusion, or self-doubt, then maybe what you need isn’t rest, but gentle activation.
That’s why I recently shared a low-pressure daily practice. Not to keep the “hustle” going but to build inner resilience and calibrate your inner compass.
So you know when to rest, when to speak, and when to move in a hybrid flow.
A Gentle Invitation Forward 💌
My hope in sharing these internal blocks is to remind you that there’s nothing wrong with you and this is all just part of the process.
There is a way forward that honors your soul and sustainably builds your business.
In part 3 of this series, I’ll share how to actually create content with more ease (yes, effort is still required, you can't manifest a post out of thin air from bed just by thinking about it…yet).
But for now, I’ll leave you with today’s gentle invitation:
Share one thought, one feeling, or one story that’s been floating in your mind. Doesn’t need to be polished. Doesn’t need to be “on-brand”…just real.
You could post it on Instagram, Substack, LinkedIn, Threads, or YouTube, whichever platform feels most natural to you.
You can also imagine the one person who would benefit from hearing it and speak directly to them.
After you post, take a moment to reflect:
What came up for you?
What did your mind say?
What did your heart feel?
Did anything soften or tighten in your body?
I’d love to hear/see what you shared, so comment below or DM me.
Content creation isn’t just another marketing strategy.
It’s your soul expressing itself. And you don’t need to do it alone.
